Find Cell Towers in the UK: EE, O2, Vodafone and Three
How to find EE, O2, Vodafone and Three masts near you in the UK, check which ones run 5G, fix rural not-spots, and aim a 5G home broadband router properly.
In the UK the search is usually “mast”, not “tower”, but the need is the same: which network has built near you, whether the nearest mast runs 5G, and which way to face a 5G home broadband router or an external antenna. Cell Tower Finder & Locator maps the known masts across the UK with each site’s operator, network generation, distance and compass bearing, on iPhone and Android — including the rural not-spots where the answer is a single distant mast on the right hill.
The networks on the map
| Operator | Network code (MCC-MNC) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| EE | 234-30 | Largest 4G and 5G footprint; also behind BT Mobile and other brands |
| O2 | 234-10 | Also carries giffgaff, Tesco Mobile and Sky Mobile |
| Vodafone | 234-15 | Merged with Three in 2025; networks being combined |
| Three | 234-20 | Merged with Vodafone in 2025; strong 5G home broadband push |
Since the Vodafone–Three merger you’ll still see both codes on the map while the two networks are integrated, so if you’re on either, keep both filters on. Many MVNOs — giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, Sky, Lebara, Smarty and the rest — ride one of these four networks; check which host your SIM uses and filter to that.
Where masts are, and why the band matters
- Cities have dense grids, with 5G mostly on mid-band spectrum around 3.4 GHz: fast, but it fades faster than 4G and dislikes thick walls.
- Towns and A-roads are served by fewer masts, often on low-band 700/800 MHz spectrum that reaches a long way and gets indoors.
- Rural not-spots — valleys, coasts, moorland — may be covered by one mast from one network, which is precisely where filtering by operator before you buy a SIM or a house pays for itself.
Mast positions come from aggregated public and community-sourced data, so they’re close estimates rather than Ofcom-grade coordinates. The bearing is dependable; the exact pin is approximate.
Check the mast before the contract: See which networks have built around a village, a flat or a holiday let — Cell Tower Finder & Locator is free on the App Store and Google Play and shows every nearby mast with operator, generation, distance and bearing.
How to use the map in the UK
- Compare networks around an address before switching or moving — which carriers have towers near you shows the method, and checking cell coverage before moving covers the whole house-move checklist.
- Scout somewhere you haven’t been with pin drop: a cottage in the Highlands, a campsite in Cornwall, a flat in Manchester.
- Aim 5G home broadband. Three, EE and Vodafone sell 5G home broadband routers that are small directional radios; the right window and the right bearing can double the speed. Use the radar view for the exact bearing, then confirm with the built-in speed test. The technique is in pointing an antenna at a cell tower and the 4G/5G home broadband antenna setup guide.
- Fix a rural not-spot. An external directional antenna aimed at the one mast that reaches you often beats changing network. See better cell signal in rural areas.
5G on the map versus the icon on your phone
UK 5G is overwhelmingly deployed onto existing masts, so a site record may still show the 4G identity while your phone displays 5G; and EE, Vodafone and Three all use spectrum-sharing in places. 4G vs 5G towers explains the mechanics.
FAQ
Does the app have mast data for the UK?
Yes. The worldwide database includes EE, O2, Vodafone and Three sites across the UK. Positions are estimates from public and community-sourced data rather than operator surveys.
Which network is best in my area?
That changes village by village. Filter the map by operator around your actual postcode, compare distances and 5G availability, and remember that an MVNO is only as good as its host network’s nearest mast.
Can it show which mast my phone is connected to?
On iPhone no app can; on Android your phone’s own settings can show the serving cell. The map’s job is to show every mast around you so you know where better signal is coming from.
Get Cell Tower Finder & Locator on the App Store or on Google Play and see which masts are really around you.
